Suspect who shot at Kentucky officers arrested after ‘extensive manhunt’
A suspect who allegedly fired shots at officers during a pursuit has been arrested, according to the Georgetown Police Department.
The incident began around 3 a.m. Tuesday when police attempted to pull over a vehicle near Paynes Depot. The driver, later identified as Dustin Aliff, 35, fled from officers toward Stamping Ground, according to police. The agency did not say why officers initiated the traffic stop.
During the vehicle pursuit, Aliff fired multiple shots, according to police. In a Facebook post, the agency said the lead vehicle in the pursuit was struck and disabled.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Lexington Police Department, joined the “extensive manhunt” for Aliff. Police said he was found on Fairfax Way around 6:30 a.m. and taken into custody without incident.
“We are incredibly grateful for the cooperation and dedication of these agencies and thankful that no injuries occurred during this dangerous situation,” police said in the post.
Three shell casings were found in Aliff’s vehicle, which was abandoned along Stamping Ground Road. Police said investigators are searching the area of Aliff’s abandoned vehicle for additional evidence.
Aliff is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree criminal mischief, police said.
