The Maryland man charged with kidnapping a Kentucky teen told police he met the teen online and drove her across several states, according to the man’s arrest warrant.

Christian Delgado, 37, was charged with kidnapping a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her Rockcastle County home in mid-October.

She was found Dec. 26 by Maryland police after telling her aunt where she was staying.

In Delgado’s arrest warrant, police said they learned from interviews that the teen had planned to run away for several weeks before she went missing.

Local police and the U.S. Marshals Service found the girl at home in Silver Springs, Maryland, just north of Washington, D.C.

Delgado told police he had driven from Florida to Kentucky to pick the girl up, and then took her to his home in Maryland.

During his first court appearance, Delgado told a judge the situation was a “misunderstanding” and he was a model citizen, according to Herald-Leader news partner, WKYT.

Delgado is awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
