A teen girl has been charged with murder after shooting and killing another early Sunday in an Elizabethtown parking lot. A man has also been charged in connection to the crime.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 11 in the Lowe’s parking lot at 100 Lowe’s Drive. According to a Facebook post by Elizabethtown police public affairs Officer Chris Denham, a 15-year-old girl shot and killed another 15-year-old girl while hanging out with man in the parking lot early.
Denham said when officers arrived, Bryan Harbison, 21, of McDaniels, was giving CPR to the shooting victim, and the other 15-year-old girl was still at the scene.
The victim was taken to Baptist Health Hardin, where she was pronounced dead. Denham said her identity is being withheld at this time.
“I would humbly ask that you give them privacy as they attempt to navigate this unthinkable loss,” Denham said of the victim’s family in a Facebook post.
Harbison told police he and the two juveniles were in drinking his truck when the shooting occurred. Harbison allegedly met the victim through Snapchat and thought she was 18, according to Denham.
Denham said the juvenile charged admitted to firing one round at the victim, which struck her in the chest.
Police interviewed Harbison and the juvenile suspect, and they reportedly gave different stories of how the juvenile obtained the gun, according to Denham. The juvenile said Harbison told her the gun was unloaded and placed it on the center console, while Harbison said the gun was secured in his glove compartment and the juvenile brought it out without him knowing.
The juvenile, whose name is not being released because of her age, has been charged with murder. Harbison is charged with third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Harbison was scheduled to be arraigned in Hardin District Court Monday morning, according to court records. Denham said he is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center.
