A Kentucky man is charged with manslaughter after he allegedly shot and killed another man during an argument early Saturday.
The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Edgewood Drive in Nicholasville. Court documents say Tanner Hamilton, 25, of Georgetown, was in an argument with another man whom he shot in the chest.
The victim was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, where he later died. Nicholasville Public Information Officer Sam Wade identified the victim as Anthony Rector of Nicholasville.
Court documents say Hamilton visited Rector’s home twice before the fatal shooting occurred. He caused “significant damage” to Rector’s car during the second visit and fled after Rector spotted the damage and chased after him in his vehicle.
The pair only traveled a short distance before pulling over on Edgewood Drive and getting into an argument. Hamilton told police Rector tried to take Hamilton’s gun away from him during the argument, according to court documents. Hamilton also allegedly told police Rector did not threaten him, and he did not see a weapon on him during the argument.
Hamilton is charged with first-degree manslaughter. He is being held in the Jessamine County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
His next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing Monday, Jan. 26.
