An elderly couple in Kentucky is dead following a fatal double shooting Wednesday.

The shooting happened around 9:35 a.m. local time Jan. 14 at a home on Shady Grove Wickerville Road in Metcalfe County, according to Kentucky State Police.

Doris Huffman, 83, of Hardyville, and Vander Huffman, 87, also of Hardyville, were found with gunshot wounds inside the home. State Police Post 15 Public Affairs Officer Jonathan Houk said the shooting happened inside their home.

Doris was pronounced dead at the scene by the Metcalfe County coroner, according to state police. Vander was taken to T.J. Sampson Community Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries. He died Wednesday afternoon.

State police said Vander’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Houk said preliminary evidence suggests the incident was a murder-suicide, but is considered a death investigation as of Thursday.

Doris and Vander were married, according to state police.
