A Pike County man faces seven felony charges, including arson, kidnapping and attempted murder, after investigators say he forced three people into a mobile home at gunpoint early last year and set fire to it with them trapped inside.

Marty Hurley, 50, of Stopover, was first arrested July 3, 2025, in connection to the May 30, 2025, incident. Police say he confronted two women with an AR-15 assault rifle, shot it into the air and then barricaded them and a third, male victim in the home before setting it ablaze.

The victims claimed Hurley accused them of stealing from his home, yet Hurley told investigators he was in Charleston, West Virginia, at the time of the incident, according to court records.

When police arrived at the scene of the fire, all three victims had been able to escape, but the mobile home had been burned to the ground. Kentucky State Trooper Brennen Eckart told a Pike County Circuit Court judge in mid-July that Hurley had “intended to burn them alive,” according to WYMT.

One of the victims suffered smoke inhalation injuries, according to the Kentucky Attorney General’s office, which announced the indictment Wednesday.

Hurley faces one count of arson, three counts of attempted murder and three counts of adult kidnapping.

Prosecutors filed a warrant motion for Hurley’s arrest Jan. 20 and are requesting a $100,000 full cash bond, according to court records.
