Man charged with murder in death of KY girl who died in ATV crash
A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl who died in an ATV crash in Perry County last month.
Noah Back, 26, of Vicco, was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged in the death of Emilynn Clark, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office and Commonwealth Attorney John Hansen determined there was probable cause that Back “exhibited extreme indifference to human life which resulted in” Clark’s death Feb. 28, the sheriff’s office said in a post on social media on Saturday.
Emilynn, a sophomore at Perry County High School, was a passenger on an ATV that was being driven by another 16-year-old girl when the girl lost control, and the vehicle went over an embankment on Oakwood Avenue in Vicco, the sheriff said.
Two men were also on the ATV with the girls when it crashed, and though the sheriff’s office did not identify them, officials later said Back was the owner of the ATV.
The girl who was driving the ATV, who has not been identified because she is a minor, was charged with DUI.
The sheriff’s office previously said they were working to determine who provided the alcohol.
They also said they were executing two search warrants on Back’s cell phone, one of which they said was not related to the crash investigation.
The sheriff’s office said social services and the Perry County School District, where one of the men involved in the crash had volunteered as a basketball coach, were also conducting investigations.
Back was taken to the Kentucky River Regional Jail on Saturday.
A preliminary autopsy concluded that Emilynn was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she died, the sheriff’s office said on Saturday.
