Lexington police make arrest in fatal shooting outside nursing home

Lexington police and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Lexington nursing home.

Maurice Ward Jr., 21, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of Anthoney Carol Beaumont Jr., 31. The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Oct. 2.

Ward was arrested Monday in Shelby County, Tenn., Lexington police said in a news release. He was being held in Tennessee pending an extradition hearing.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said she could not elaborate on the evidence that led police to issue an arrest warrant for Ward.

"We received some credible information that he had fled to Tennessee," she said. "We knew that he did have ties to the Tennessee area and were able to follow up on that information and locate him."

Ward was lodged in the Shelby County jail on a fugitive warrant. It was unclear when he would begin extradition hearings.

Beaumont was shot in the parking lot of Northpoint/Lexington Healthcare Center, 1500 Trent Boulevard, where his wife worked, police and family members have said.

Police have said the shooting was "domestic-related."
