Judge denies bond for Lexington man accused of killing his infant son

A Lexington man charged with murder in the death of his one-month-old son will remain in jail without bond, a Fayette County District Court judge ruled Monday.

During a brief hearing, Judge T. Bruce Bell entered a not-guilty plea for Caz Hazuga and ordered that Hazuga remain in the Fayette County jail, where he has been held without bond since his arrest Friday.

Hazuga is charged with murder in the death of Caz Hazuga Jr., who died Thanksgiving morning. A police report stated that Hazuga "admitted to intentionally causing" the child's death by striking his head on a kitchen counter.

The infant's mother, Angelina Rushing, said Hazuga did not kill their child.

Rushing has said she thought her husband confessed to protect her. She said he "didn't want them to throw his wife in jail."

Rushing also has suggested in television interviews that Lexington police forced Hazuga to confess.

A report from the Fayette County coroner's office listed the child's cause of death as "pending." According to the report, the baby boy became unresponsive at home and was taken to the Saint Joseph Hospital emergency room, where he died.

Bell scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 12.
