Elderly man dies of beating injuries; Lexington's 12th homicide
A Lexington man died Sunday of injuries from an assault Friday, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
John Tully, 87, died at 10:15 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to a news release. The cause of death was blunt-force trauma, according to the news release.
Coroner Gary Ginn's office said the death was being investigated as a homicide. It is the 12th homicide in Lexington this year and the fifth one since June 21.
Police who were called to investigate just before 5:30 p.m. Friday said it appeared that Tully had been hit on the head.
Witnesses described a possible suspect as a short, white balding man in his 20s or 30s, wearing blue jeans and a black shirt.
