Shooting on Kent Drive
The teen found shot to death in a vehicle on a quiet Lexington street was identified Monday as Jamaal Tre Gossett, 18.
Gossett was found about 8:40 p.m. Sunday in the driver’s seat of a silver SUV at Kent and Cabot drives, off of Russell Cave Road.
Gossett graduated from Bryan Station High School in May, Fayette County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said.Additional grief counselors were at the school Monday to help provide support for students who needed it.
The cause of death was a gunshot wound, and it was ruled as a homicide, according to a coroner’s office news release Monday that didn’t note the location of the wound. At the scene Sunday night, Coroner Gary Ginn said the teen had a head injury.
The body was to be taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Detectives from the Lexington police department’s robbery/homicide unit were at the scene Sunday night.
