Lexington private schools won’t release investigation into video of mascot being harassed
Officials from Lexington Catholic High School and Lexington Christian Academy will provide no further information on a video that purports to show LCA’s mascot targeted in a bathroom on the same night the two schools played a rivalry game.
While in costume, the LCA mascot, described as an adult school custodian, appears to be confronted, potentially by more than one person, and repeatedly touched around the shoulders and head.
Officials from both schools initially said they had been investigating the September incident.
Recently, Lexington Catholic spokeswoman Lesley Farmer said, “Lexington Catholic cannot comment on any issue related to any of our students. We cannot provide any information on this incident as it involves students.”
Lexington Christian Academy won’t be making further comment, a spokesman said Thursday.
The video was apparently taken in an LCA men’s room at a Sept. 17 Friday night football game between the two schools and was posted on an LCA student Twitter page with the words, “Lose by 40 and try to push our mascot (our janitor) around while he’s trying to use the bathroom?”
LCA defeated Lexington Catholic at the game 43-7 in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
Lexington police spokesman Donnell Gordon said last month that the incident had not been reported to Lexington police within the first few days after the game. Gordon had not responded to questions about the incident by Thursday afternoon.
