Action taken against student for letter ‘threatening violence’ at Henry Clay High School.

A student on Friday was found responsible for an anonymous letter that threatened violence at Lexington’s Henry Clay High School, Principal Paul Little said in a message to families.

Little explained in his Friday message that families were not told of the threat immediately after the letter was found late Thursday because that would have impeded the resolution of the case. The threat was determined not credible, he said.

Little said in his message that on late Thursday “one of our students found an anonymous letter threatening violence at our school.”

“We immediately began an investigation, and quickly determined that this was not a credible threat,” Little said. “Given the nature of the investigation, we were unable to share information with families yesterday without impeding the resolution of the case. “

Fayette County Public Schools Police Department officers and Henry Clay administration identified the student responsible for the letter Friday morning and “appropriate action is being taken,” Little said.

District officials did not say what action was taken.

“While some may think this is a joke, it is important that our students understand that making threats against a school is a felony under state law,” Little said. “We will not tolerate disruption of the learning environment.”

He said many students at the public school responded appropriately by sharing the information they received with adults.

Earlier in the week on Monday, the private Lexington Christian Academy expelled a student for sending a “disturbing snapchat message” to several students, according to a statement from LCA head of school Scott Wells sent to LCA family, staff and faculty.
