Editor’s note: The Herald-Leader is profiling 25 individuals we predict will make news in 2025.

Name: Greg Feeney

Background: Feeney has worked at Bluegrass Commuinty and Technical College for 26 years. Before becoming president at the end of 2023, he served in a variety of roles, including provost, vice president of academics and workforce development, dean of academic support and a professor. He has worked in workforce development for multiple industries, including manufacturing, financial services, information technology, and healthcare.

Why they’re someone to watch in 2025: Feeney has one year under his belt as president of Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Enrollment is up 11.5%, and Feeney said the college is committing to work even closer with industries in Kentucky to train and educate students, particularly in healthcare, technology, skilled trades and manufacturing, where the state has workforce shortages.

“We are vital to meeting these needs as we provide access to all and pathways to success without the heavy financial burden that often comes with education,” Feeney said.

Why 2025 will be important: “At BCTC, we believe education should be an open door for all,” Feeney said. “We will continue to strengthen our efforts in expanding access, removing barriers, meeting students where they are at, and providing comprehensive wraparound services that empower every student to succeed. Our commitment extends beyond the traditional classroom by supporting the educational and training needs of our local industries.”

What others say about Feeney: Karen Mayo, provost of BCTCS, said Feeney’s commitment to “passion, vision, dedication and student-centered philosophy are vital in shaping BCTC’s future.”

At the heart of his work, there is a deep love for students and their success,” Mayo said. “Whether mentoring, championing new learning opportunities, or fostering a supportive environment, he is driven to help every student reach their potential.”
