In-person classes canceled Tuesday in Fayette County Schools, other KY districts

As dangerously cold weather is forecast in the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern, in-person classes are canceled Tuesday for Fayette County Public Schools.

Students will learn virtually from home, with the district taking the academic year’s second non-traditional instruction day.

Officials have also canceled after-school activities for Tuesday.

The University of Kentucky also canceled in-person classes Tuesday. UK HealthCare will remain open.

Madison, Harrison and Jessamine County schools were among the other districts who had canceled in-person classes for Tuesday as of noon Monday.

FCPS sends home food for students in need

For those Fayette County Schools students enrolled in a program where foods bags are sent home on weekends, extra food items were sent home on Friday in anticipation of the winter weather storm, said district spokesperson Miranda Scully. School Family Resource Center coordinators and other student support staff are making referrals to community agencies for emergency basic needs assistance, Scully said.
