Mitch McConnell campaign is selling Nancy Pelosi-inspired impeachment acquittal shirts
Following President Donald Trump’s impeachment acquittal, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is hoping his re-election campaign can cash in on the celebration.
The campaign is now selling $35 T-shirts that read “Game. Set. Mitch.” A piece of paper with the word “Impeachment” written on it is shown ripped in half, taking a page out of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s playbook. Pelosi made news Tuesday when she tore a copy of the State of the Union speech in half after Trump was done speaking.
“Show Nancy Pelosi you proudly stand with President Trump,” McConnell’s campaignwebsite reads. Money for the shirts will go to McConnell’s re-election campaign.
McConnell commented on Pelosi’s act on Fox News’ “Hannity” Wednesday night.
“The Speaker tearing up the President’s speech? How childish and petty is that? What kind of example does that set for the American people?” asked McConnell.
McConnell has been a Kentucky senator since 1985 and has been the Senate Majority Leader since the 2014 Senate elections. Amy McGrath and Charles Booker are the Democrat nominees vying to remove McConnell from his position.
“Kentuckians are proud of Senator McConnell’s efforts to end Nancy Pelosi’s regrettable impeachment witch hunt so we thought we’d offer a shirt with a nod towards another regrettable decision she made to disgrace the state of the union by tearing up the speech,” McConnell’s campaign manager, Kevin Golden, told McClatchy News in an email.
It’s not the first time the McConnell campaign has found an inventive way to make money. Last holiday season, the campaign sold wrapping paper showing McConnell’s face with a Santa hat.
“We wanted to give our supporters a fun way to surprise their family and rib their liberal friends this holiday season.” Golden said.
The wrapping paper, along with “Back-to-Back Supreme Court Champs” and “Cocaine Mitch” T-shirts are available at teammitch.com/store.
