A man bitten by a dog choked it and tried to drown it in a toilet, Kentucky cops say

A dog is recovering after police say a Kentucky man tried to strangle and drown it and then put it in a dumpster.

The dog’s owner called police Feb. 23, saying she found her dog in an Amazon Prime box inside of a dumpster in Richmond, officials said.

She told police that Tyler Dabney, 24, admitted to trying to kill the dog after it bit him the previous night while playing with a tennis ball, according to an arrest citation.

Dabney later told officers he “proceeded to strangle and choke the K9 and drowned it in the toilet bowl,” police said.

The woman told police she was afraid Dabney would attempt to harm the dog again, officials said. Police did not release information about the relationship between Dabney and the woman.

Dabney told officers he would put the dog down Friday once he got paid because of it “coming back to life and it needed it,” police said.

Police said the dog “appeared to be moving and walking fine.”

Dabney was charged with second-degree animal cruelty and was placed in the Madison County Detention Center.

Richmond is about 28 miles southeast of Lexington.
