Three students are dead after a single-car crash just minutes from their Atlanta-area high school on Wednesday, May 11, multiple news outlets report, citing police.

The crash occurred just after 3:15 p.m. at Oak Grove Road, less than 2 miles from Eagle’s Landing High School in McDonough, Georgia, according to WXIA. Two other teens were seriously injured.

There were five teens in the car at the time, and all attended Eagle’s Landing, WSB-TV confirmed with school officials. The car went down an embankment and hit trees, the station reported.

The students have been identified as Katrina Owens, 15; Jordan Brown, 15; and Kenderrias Dodson, 16, WAGA reported, citing police.

McClatchy News reached out to the Henry County Police Department on May 12 and was awaiting a response.

In a statement, school district leaders said they were “saddened” by news of the fatal crash.

“Our condolences go out to these students’ families during this extremely difficult time,” the statement said. “We will have crisis response teams consisting of counselors and social workers on campus to support any staff members or students who need to speak with someone.”

A community vigil for the teens is scheduled for Monday, May 16, at the school’s football stadium.

Police have released few other details said the crash remains under investigation.

McDonough is about 30 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
