A man who says he was locked inside a south Georgia convenience store is accused of burglarizing it, according to the Albany Police Department.

The 41-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, May 27, and charged with second-degree burglary after he was spotted in the gas station after-hours, police said in a news release.

Officers arrived at the BP Gas Station on Dawson Road around 3 a.m. to find the man filling a grocery bag with items he had taken, the release says. They also found money he allegedly stole from the store’s cash registers.

During his arrest, the man told officers he had become locked in the store.

Police haven’t released further details about the incident.

Albany is about 90 miles southeast of Columbus.
