Two seasoned skydivers crashed through the roof of an aircraft hangar in Ohio after a mid-air accident, according to media reports and an individual at the scene.

On Oct. 22, the two individuals were skydiving in Troy Township, about 35 miles southeast of Cleveland, when their parachutes became tangled several hundred feet from the ground, WJW reported.

Before impact, the two separated and then crashed through the roof of the Cleveland Skydiving Center, the outlet reported.

One of them became stuck in the wooden rafters of the building and was taken down with a ladder, News5 reported.

The other skydiver landed on a person inside the building, another skydiver, who was preparing to get on an airplane, WOIO reported.

The incident was the result of a “freak accident,” Marcie Smith, the owner of the Cleveland Skydiving Center who observed the crash, told McClatchy News.

“They had fully functioning parachutes. They were actually flying around up top close to each other,” she said. “Then they both went their separate ways and they lost sight of each other and definitely made a mistake, and they ended up colliding.”

All three individuals involved were hospitalized, according to WOIO.

“One of them already jumped again the very next day, the other guy walked away from the accident without any issues, and one jumper had broken his foot and a bone closer to his elbow,” Smith said.

The individuals who crashed through the roof had “thousands of skydives themselves and hundreds of skydives with each other,” Smith said in a statement.

Repairs have been made on the hangar, and the business’ operations resumed the morning after the incident, according to the statement.

A spokesperson for the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News on Oct. 28.
