19-year-old skateboarder struck and killed by crane truck at light, Florida officials say
A 19-year-old skateboarder died after a crane truck ran a red light and struck him, Florida officials said.
The skateboarder, Isaiah Edward Baker Castellano, was crossing a street in a crosswalk just before 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 17 when he was struck, according to a statement from the City of Clearwater.
He sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the statement said.
The City of Clearwater said that Castellano had the green light to cross when the crane truck driver ran a red light and struck him.
The 35-year-old driver stopped after the crash and cooperated, the city said. A spokesman for the city did not say whether the driver would be charged.
Officers on scene did not detect signs of impairment, according to the city.
“The investigation continues,” the statement says.
An obituary for Castellano could not be found online.
Clearwater is about 20 miles west of Tampa.
