A Massachusetts man is grateful for second chances after a forgotten lottery ticket was found by his house cleaner, lottery officials said.

Khalil Soussa, of Medford, bought a ticket for the Massachusetts State Lottery “15,000,000 Money Maker” game months ago, according to an Oct. 12 news release.

The ticket was all but forgotten when his house cleaner found it in a vase and gave it back to the homeowner.

When he checked the ticket, he saw that it had won big.

Soussa’s ticket won one of the game’s eight $1 million prizes.

He told lottery officials he plans to use the money to help a friend, then will donate some to charity, according to the release.

Soussa opted for a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes, officials said.

Medford is a suburb of Boston on the city’s northside.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
