A great-grandmother of 13 scratched off her ticket in the parking lot of a North Carolina convenience store.

What she saw left her “trembling,” she told lottery officials.

“I really was,” she said.

Rosa Yearby of Moore County won $250,000 on a 20X The Cash ticket, NC Education Lottery announced in a Nov. 21 news release.

“I went back in and showed it to the ladies,” Yearby told lottery officials. “They were just as excited as I was.”

Yearby reached out to her family to share the news.

“I almost couldn’t think of my kids’ numbers,” she told officials. “My son said, ‘You need to get that ticket home.’”

Yearby did just that. She kept the ticket close by until she could go into lottery headquarters Nov. 20 to collect her prize.

After taxes, she took home $178,126, according to the release. She told lottery officials she plans to use the money for home improvements and to pay bills.

Moore County is 60 miles southwest of Raleigh.
