Lottery player buys six tickets for same drawing — and wins six times in Virginia
A lottery player bought six tickets with the same numbers for a drawing in Virginia.
Then she won six times.
Latoya Burke won six $30,000 prizes in the June 5 Pick 5 daytime drawing, making for a total windfall of $180,000, according to a July 16 news release from the Virginia Lottery.
The Chesapeake woman used 5-5-5-5-0 and matched all five numbers in that exact order, lottery officials said.
She put $0.50 on matching all five numbers in order and $0.50 on having any combination of the right numbers, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Normally, the top prize is $50,000 with a $1 bet.
“I checked the numbers, and I was happy,” Burke told lottery officials.
She beat the 1-in-100,000 odds of matching all five numbers in order, and she did it six times, according to the Virginia Lottery.
More than $27.2 million in funds from the lottery went toward K-12 education in Chesapeake in the last fiscal year, officials said.
Chesapeake is near the southeast coast in the Hampton Roads area, about a 25-mile drive west from Virginia Beach.
