Large creature gets tangled in soccer net, photos show. See Colorado officers free it
Wildlife officials freed a large animal that was tangled in a soccer net in Colorado, photos show.
And apparently it wasn’t the first time that happened, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southwest Region said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“You know who doesn’t like soccer? This buck,” the agency said Friday, Nov. 1. “Wrapping up another busy week with a wildlife rescue from Durango.”
Photos show the trapped buck lying beneath the goal post with the net twisted around both antlers.
“Our wildlife officers responded to the Smith Sports Complex near Fort Lewis College this week when a buck got its antlers stuck in the netting of this soccer goal,” officials said. “Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this has happened.”
Another photo shows the buck standing up in the goal post and likely trying to free itself.
“Our Durango officers respond to incidents like this every year,” the agency said. “It’s why we try to remind people to remove tangle hazards (such) as hammocks from their yards and properly store or take down sporting equipment when it’s not in use.”
A photo shows the buck lying down again with its antlers still tangled up in the net.
“Stress from these incidents can be fatal for deer,” officials said. “Luckily for this buck, our staff was quick on the scene to dart it, cut away the netting and then issue a reversal drug to counteract the tranquilizer. This buck will live to play another day. The soccer net? Not so much.”
