Dog’s heart shattered when family reclaims her brother — but not her. She needs a home
A Georgia shelter is asking for help from the public on behalf of a pup who was left heartbroken by her own family.
A wire-haired terrier mix dog named Hazel was left behind by her family after they came in to reclaim her, deciding that they’d rather leave her there, the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia in Lawrenceville said in a Dec. 13 Facebook post.
“Hello, my name is Hazel and it’s nice to meet you,” the post said. “I am a 14 lb scruffy Terrier mix and I’m about one year old. I was rescued from a local shelter after being found running stray with my brother. My family came and reclaimed my brother, but they left me behind saying they didn’t want me anymore. That made me so sad.”
Luckily, a foster stepped forward to care for the sweet girl.
“Thankfully my foster mom saw me looking so pitiful and cute and she scooped me up. She’s taking care of me until a better family comes to adopt me and love me forever,” the post continued.
Hazel is a shy, “tender-hearted” girl who needs another dog in the house for companionship, the shelter said.
“I am crate- and house-trained. I would love to have a fenced yard where I can run and play safely without a leash. Some toys and a soft bed to sleep on would be great too. That’s my whole Christmas List.”
Hazel is spayed and fully vetted.

Lawrenceville is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Atlanta.
