Abandoned dog found in ‘immense pain’ in Texas. Now cautious pup needs a new home
A timid dog is on the mend in Texas thanks to some caring individuals.
Brownie was in desperate need of care after she was left all alone in an apartment with no one to care for her or coax her out of her misery, the Houston Humane Society said in a Dec. 30 Facebook post. Not only that, but she was in horrible condition.
“From Neglect to New Beginnings,” the shelter said.
“Brownie was found abandoned in an apartment, her tiny body was severely matted. When she arrived, she was in immense pain, terrified, and unable to trust.”
Brownie was eventually relieved of most of her pain — which was in and under pounds of fur.
“Our medical team immediately stepped in, spending over 3 hours carefully shaving her fur under sedation,” the shelter said. “What we uncovered was heartbreaking — her body was covered in dead maggots, her paws were inflamed from a painful skin infection, and her matted fur weighed an astonishing 2 pounds.”
The shelter says Brownie is slowly starting to trust humans again thanks to all the care she’s received so far.
“Since then, Brownie has been on the road to recovery,” the shelter continued. “With time, gentle care, and lots of love, she’s started to trust again, opening up to her surroundings and the people caring for her. Her skin is healing, and she’s receiving regular baths and ear treatments to get her feeling her best.”
Brownie isn’t up for adoption just yet as she’s still recovering.
“She’ll soon return for her spay and to finish her medical shave, and we can’t wait to see her transformation continue,” the shelter noted. “Stay tuned for updates on her journey to health and happiness!”
