‘Sweet’ puppy siblings left outside shelter. Now, they get a second chance together
Two “sweet” puppy siblings were left outside a shelter — then came good news.
Scully and Mulder are kicking off their next chapter together after being adopted into the same home, according to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
“They will be spoiled inside dogs and alone only a few hours a day,” the Jackson-based shelter wrote Dec. 29 on Facebook. “We are so happy these siblings get to stay together and that they have such a wonderful new home.”
The heartwarming adoption came after Scully and Mulder were found in mid-December. Someone left the two puppies in front of the shelter’s door while workers were on a lunch break, according to social media posts.
“I guess the people were in a hurry and couldn’t wait for us to open back up at 1,” shelter spokesperson Debra Boswell told McClatchy News in a phone interview. “But we’re very grateful there wasn’t traffic in the parking lot at the time because I’m sure they would have been hit pretty quickly.”
The “sweet” mixed-breed pups, a brother and sister, were about 5 weeks old. The two landed in a foster home as the shelter waited for them to get older and gain weight before finding them a permanent new home.
Then, about two weeks later, the shelter announced the pups were available for adoption. The facility was flooded with inquiries, including one that stood out.
“We were hoping they would be adopted together and it made our day when Shannon Berrong came to visit the puppies and best of all she wanted to adopt them both,” the shelter wrote. “Shannon is an experienced dog mom but currently has no other dogs.”
Then the shelter shared the emotional news that the two little dogs went home with the woman. Dozens of Facebook users celebrated the update, including several who shared well wishes for the siblings.
“We were very glad that the people, although they didn’t wait to turn them in, that they at least left them at the shelter so they had a chance,” Boswell said.
