Shape-shifting experimental house open to rent in California. See ‘daring’ home
An architectural marvel has landed on the rental market in sunny Los Angeles, California, where residents strive to be unique in their own little ways.
Well, this house is more than a “little” unique.
It’s out of this world insane — in the coolest way possible.
“Completed in 2022 and already published in major publications, this architects house is now for rent: The A+M House is located in Santa Monica Canyon a block from the Pacific Ocean,” the listing on Compass describes.
The reason why it stands out in such a diamond way is that it shape-shifts — literally. Built by Eric Owen Moss, a L.A.-based architect who is “known for pushing formal and material boundaries in architecture since 1973,” a news release says.
“Forms shift from a curvilinear guitar-shaped base to a rectangular rooftop—a ‘kinetic’ building from ground to sky,” the release notes.
Available to rent for $24,500 per month, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was actually built for Moss and his two kids , the release mentions.
“This is Moss’s personal exploration into what residential architecture can be—a kinetic structure with twisting geometries, unconventional programming, and materials more often found in aerospace and industrial design,” the release said.
It’s considered, per the release, to be “one of LA’s most daring residential experiences.”
The residence overlooks the ocean thanks to its roof deck. According to the listing, the house revolves around an atrium “crossed by a bridge at each level.”
Other features of the 1,950-square-foot house, per the listing and release, include:
Theater
“Symposium area”
Two parking spaces
Library
The listing is held by Frank Langen.
