A dog who was named after a popular cartoon restaurant is in need of help after he was rescued from a horrible situation in Pennsylvania, officers said.

Krusty Krab, named after the underwater eatery in “SpongeBob SquarePants,” was discovered by Altoona police, living in an apartment with five children, the department said in a Sept. 16 Facebook post. The apartment was said to have been “in deplorable conditions,” and the pup was starving.

Action has been taken and Krusty is safe at a shelter in Altoona.

“This is happening far too frequently. The neglect, the cruelty, the starvation. We always seem to say, ‘don’t get a pet if you aren’t going to take care of it!’ And guess what… here comes another animal that was never taken care of,” the Central PA Humane Society said in a Sept. 16 Facebook post.

Photos show a trusting looking pup with pleading eyes, surrounded by new toys.

“We will pick up the broken pieces and put them back together for Krusty. We will treat him the way he deserved to be treated. Then, we will find him the most perfect home to finally show him that not all humans are bad,” the shelter said.

Two people have been arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of children and multiple animal offenses, police said. McClatchy News is not naming them to protect the identities of the children.

For more information, visit the shelter’s Facebook page.

Altoona is about a 95-mile drive east from Pittsburgh.
