Kentucky’s newly-elected attorney general will get to take office several weeks early
Kentucky’s newly-elected attorney general will take office several weeks early.
Incoming Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear has appointed Republican Attorney General-elect Daniel Cameron will fill the remainder of Beshear’s term, Cameron’s transition team said in a news release Friday.
Beshear will be inaugurated as governor Dec. 10.
Cameron’s appointment to fill the remainder of Beshear’s term as attorney general will be effective Dec. 17, according to the release. The term for which Cameron was elected begins on Jan. 6.
“I have had the privilege of knowing Attorney General-elect Daniel Cameron for years,” Beshear said in the release. “The people of Kentucky elected him to serve as their attorney general and I will therefore be appointing him Dec. 17. I am confident that Daniel and I will be able to work together and find common ground to move Kentucky forward.”
Cameron said he appreciates the opportunity to take the oath of office early.
“As chief law enforcement officer for the Commonwealth, I have a responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless, to fight on behalf of our law enforcement community, and to serve Kentuckians each day,” he said in the release. “It is with both humility and steadfast commitment that I approach these responsibilities.”
