With Epstein vote looming, Trump lashes out at Rep. Massie’s new marriage

President Donald Trump disparaged Rep. Thomas Massie’s recent marriage in a late night social media post Friday, just days before the U.S. House plans to vote on a Massie-led effort to force the release of files related to late child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump questioned the timing of Massie’s recent marriage to Carolyn Moffa last month, which occurred almost 16 months after the death of his wife Rhonda, who was married to Massie for 31 years.

“Did Thomas Massie, sometimes referred to as Rand Paul Jr., because of the fact that he always votes against the Republican Party, get married already??? Boy, that was quick,” Trump, who has been married three times, wrote.

Trump ended his post to Truth Social with another insult to the newlyweds.

“Anyway, have a great life Thomas and (?). His wife will soon find out that she’s stuck with a LOSER!”

A spokesperson for Massie has yet to respond to a Herald-Leader request for comment about the president’s words.

Despite running on releasing them, Trump and his administration have been reluctant to release the full Epstein files, calling it a “hoax.” With the government shutdown over, more attention on Capitol Hill has been refocused on Epstein, as more messages and documents from the investigation into Epstein mentioning Trump have been released.

The documents have not directly implicated the president in any crime, but emails and texts detail Epstein’s relationship with him and his thoughts about Trump and have raised many questions among Trump supporters and detractors alike.

Trump has long feuded with Massie over the Northern Kentucky congressman’s contrarian, and very public, stances against him dating back to Trump’s first term.

Trump’s frustration with Massie grew this year with Massie’s objection to his budget bill and his foreign policy in the Middle East. It has inflamed most over the Epstein issue, with Massie leading the charge on the petition to force the release of the full files.

Currently, Trump and his political network are backing former state senate candidate Ed Gallrein in a primary challenge against Massie.

Trump also took to social media to denigrate one of the other three Republicans of 219 to sign onto the petition to release the files. He withdrew his endorsement of Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, one of the most prominent Trump supporters in Washington, over her questioning about the files.

“All I see “Wacky” Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN,” Trump wrote, also calling her a “ranting lunatic.”

After Trump’s post, Greene posted texts between herself and Trump about Epstein earlier Friday that she thinks brought on his endorsement withdrawal.

She suggested in her post that Trump is “coming after” her to scare fellow Republicans away from voting for the petition when it is slated to come the House floor next week.

“It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level. But really most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream,” Greene wrote.
