Kentucky lawmakers are back in Frankfort for the start of the 2026 legislative session, which officially got underway Tuesday.

The agenda item at the top of the lawmakers’ list? Drafting a two-year state budget, which is constitutionally required during the 60-day session. In addition, lawmakers could tackle several controversial topics, from artificial intelligence, data centers and rising utility costs to public education funding and more.

What’s different for lawmakers this year, however, is that there are no in-person options for the public to watch legislators work.

Kentucky’s Capitol building is undergoing extensive renovations, and lawmakers did not include a gallery in their temporary chambers on Capitol grounds. Public viewing carrying livestreams of state House and Senate proceedings have been made available in the nearby Annex building.

Your voice matters as Kentucky lawmakers set to work crafting a crucial state budget and weigh in on other sensitive topics. Here’s how to find and get in touch with your representatives as the session unfolds.

How do I find my state representative in Kentucky?

Start by using a tool maintained by Kentucky’s Legislative Research Commission, which also offers several ways to track legislation and lawmakers via its website.

The LRC’s Find Your Legislator tool offers an interactive map that enables users to search their address and connect with their lawmakers in the state House of Representative and Senate. The tool links to legislator bios, which often have the lawmaker’s contact information and the bills they’ve sponsored.

You can also use the Voter Information Center maintained by the Kentucky Secretary of State, who is tasked with overseeing elections.

After entering your first and last name, along with your date of birth, you’ll be shown your voter registration information, which includes the Kentucky House and Senate district you’re in. Click “view members” for a county-by-county directory of Kentucky House and Senate members.

To directly contact your representative, you can use the LRC’s Contact a Member tool. You’ll be asked for some basic contact information, including your address, which is used to authenticate the request and it isn’t stored, according to the LRC.

If you’d like to call and leave a message for your legislator, use the LRC’s Legislative Message Line by calling 1-800-372-7181.

To follow the latest updates on legislation that interests you, Kentucky also offers a free-to-use Bill Watch service. You can also search bills by their sponsor via the LRC’s website.
