Diane Minnifield and Jeffrey A. Taylor will face off in the general election for the 22nd judicial circuit’s 7th division.

They advanced in the nonpartisan race from among a field of five candidates in Tuesday’s primary.

Minnifield got 29% of the vote, while Taylor came in second with 24%.

Minnifield, 59, who has worked for the Fayette County Attorney’s Office since 1992, said Tuesday night that she was “overwhelmed” and “humbled” by the results.

“My team worked so hard,” she said, noting that much of her campaigning was done virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but “the name got out there. The message got out there. I’m just so excited.”

“I believe in Lexington. I really do,” she said. “And I know that we can be better. ...I’m just excited to move forward and move Lexington forward.”

Taylor, 52, a former partner and trial attorney at Landrum & Shouse LLP, is currently serving as judge for the 7th division, having been appointed by Gov. Andy Beshear after Judge Ernesto Scorsone retired late last year.

Kim Green came in third with 22%, followed by Kathryn Mattingly Webster with 16% and Michael T. Davis with 9% of the vote.

Circuit judges handle capital cases and felonies, civil cases involving $5,000 or more, land dispute title cases and contested probate cases, according to KyCourts.gov.
