Kentucky man almost deletes the email letting him know he won $1M playing Powerball
A Northern Kentucky man missed winning Saturday night’s Powerball jackpot by just one number, according to a news release Wednesday from the Kentucky Lottery.
The anonymous man’s Powerball ticket matched all five white ball numbers, but not the red Powerball that would’ve won him $60 million. Still, the game made the man a millionaire as he won its second-biggest prize.
The man told lottery officials he bought the ticket online and learned of his win after getting an email from the agency.
“I was checking my emails when I saw an email from the Kentucky Lottery,” the man said, according to the release. “(I) almost deleted it. I still can’t believe it.”
After collecting his winnings at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville, the man took home a check for $715,000 after taxes. He plans to use the money to help his family and save for retirement.
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and you can watch the drawings live at Powerball.com.
The Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $95 million, and another jackpot game, Mega Millions, has a growing pot, too. The Mega Millions jackpot is now at an estimated $1.25 billion after no one beat the odds during Tuesday night’s draw. The next drawing is Friday at 11 p.m.
