A suspect in Louisville was critically injured Tuesday morning after being shot by police, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The shooting happened near S. 26th Street and Garland Avenue. LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel confirmed several LMPD officers fired at the suspect and no officers were injured.

It’s unknown what led up to the incident or why officers fired their guns. Body-worn camera footage of the incident will be released in 10 business days, according to LMPD.

At 10:15 a.m., LMPD said its SWAT team had cleared the scene and there was no longer a public safety threat. No other suspects have been identified.

Police didn’t release further information.

It’s the second shooting involving LMPD to take place within a seven-week span. In early September, officer Brandon Haley was shot in the chest while conducting a traffic stop in the 4000 block of Kentucky Street.

Haley was discharged from the hospital over two weeks later, according to LMPD.
