Kentucky Lottery launches new games themed after beloved daytime television show

Itching to combine beloved daytime television and scratch-off tickets? A new limited-edition Kentucky Lottery game might just do the trick.

The commonwealth’s lottery is introducing new scratch-off and fast-play games modeled after The Price Is Right, the long-running CBS game show anchored by hosts Bob Barker and Drew Carey. Each $5 scratch-off ticket offers a grand prize of $75,000, while $5 fast-play tickets feature a maximum prize of $5,000 with additional chances to multiply winnings or strike gold with a second-chance promotion.

The Price Is Right scratch-off ticket tasks players with competing in several “games” modeled off of the game show, including a Plinko board and prize showcases. The overall odds of winning any prize value, which starts at $5, are about 1 in 3.16, according to the Kentucky Lottery.

Each The Price Is Right-themed fast-play ticket asks players to match any of six winning numbers to a set of 20 numbers before uncovering an additional 20 numbers modeled after a Plinko board. Finding a winning number on the first board or matching five winning numbers in a vertical column on the Plinko board will award a prize of up to $5,000. The game’s overall odds are roughly 1 in 3.31, with prizes starting at $5.

An additional, limited-time promotion gives Kentucky Lottery players another chance to win some cash. Anyone who purchases qualifying The Price Is Right scratch-off or fast-play tickets can enter a second-chance promotion that could award a top prize of $10,000. You can enter eligible tickets online or through the Kentucky Lottery’s mobile app before playing interactive digital games modeled after The Price Is Right that can award second-chance promotion entries.

Second-chance prizes through this promotion are expected to be distributed through six periods this summer and fall. According to the Kentucky Lottery, those periods will follow this schedule:

  • Period 1: June 13 to July 21
  • Period 2: July 22 to Aug. 18
  • Period 3: Aug. 19 to Sept. 15
  • Period 4: Sept. 16 to Oct. 13
  • Period 5: Oct. 14 to Nov. 10
  • Period 6: Nov. 11 to Dec. 8

Kentucky Lottery representatives declined to share specific sales expectations for the new The Price Is Right-themed games, but President and CEO Mary Harville said in a statement the lottery expects them to be “very successful.”

In addition to its The Price Is Right-themed games, the Kentucky Lottery plans to unveil several new games this summer and fall, including a new game with “one of the largest progressive jackpots” the commonwealth’s lottery has ever offered. Another scratch-off game, scheduled to launch in October, will feature a top prize of $5 million for the first time ever.

The Kentucky Lottery’s sales in fiscal year 2023 reached $1.84 billion.

A good chunk of that — roughly $425 million — came through online sales, according to records obtained by the Herald-Leader through an Open Records Act request. No Kentucky county accounted for more lottery sales than Jefferson County, whose $331 million total beat out second-place Fayette County by more than $240 million.
