Kentucky man plans to spread his luck by sharing a big lottery win with his brothers
Earlier this month, a Louisville man walked into the Circle K on West Ashland Avenue, bought a lottery ticket on a whim and scratched off a big win — $200,000, according to a Friday Kentucky Lottery news release.
The man, who according to the lottery wishes to remain anonymous, bought a Bluegrass Blowout scratch-off ticket June 10.
“I usually play different ones,” the man told Kentucky Lottery officials. “I usually play the $5 tickets. I don’t know what made me buy the $10 one.”
That decision paid off big time. Scratching off the ticket, he matched the number 23 to win the game’s top prize. The game has players scratch off a set of numbers in hopes they’ll match one of the five winning numbers on the ticket.
Winnings on the game start at $10 and go up to the top $200,000 prize, though most range from $10 to $25. The overall odds of winning any prize on Bluegrass Blowout are 1 in 3.12, according to the lottery.
After taxes, the Louisville man took home a check worth $144,000.
“I knew it was a winner!” the man told lottery officials.
The man said he plans to spread the love and share the winnings with his brothers.
“I’d like to give to them,” he said. “I think I’ll bank the rest.”
The Circle K also came out a winner. It will receive $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.
The Louisville man is not alone in winning big on Bluegrass Blowout. In March 2023, an Ohio man who drives through the state also took the game’s top prize.
