After 12 years playing lottery game, Kentucky man wins $25K a year for life prize

A second Kentucky Lottery player has won $25,000 a year for life in the span of just a couple months.

The most recent win occurred Jan. 30, when a Danville man, who wishes to remain anonymous, matched all the balls except the Lucky Ball in the Lucky for Life drawing, Kentucky Lottery reported Feb. 14 in a release.

In Lucky for Life, players select five white balls, numbered one through 48, and a Lucky Ball, numbered one through 18. Plays cost $2, and there are daily drawings. Matching all the balls takes the top prize — $1,000 a day for life, or $5.75 million cash. The second prize is $25,000 a year for life, or a $390,000 cash option. Odds on those wins are 1 in 30.8 million and 1 in 1.8 million, respectively.

The Boyle County man is no stranger to the game, he told Kentucky Lottery officials. He’s been playing here and there for 12 years after seeing a commercial for it, and purchased his big winning ticket in January at the Five Star on Denmark Drive in Danville.

He got a $10 ticket with five sets of numbers, one of which included the white ball winning numbers 9, 13, 18, 23 and 40.

He scanned the ticket there at the store and discovered his win.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw $500,000 show up on the screen,” he told the lottery, per the release. “I was shocked! I felt truly lucky for life.”

When he went to Kentucky Lottery’s Louisville headquarters to claim the prize Feb. 6, he chose the $390,000 lump payment, securing a check for $280,800 after taxes.

He’s not the only winner on the ticket either. For selling it, the Five Star also secured a $3,900 prize.

In November, a Lexington man won the same $25,000 for life prize after purchasing a ticket at the bp on Southland Drive.
