Kentucky woman thought her lottery ticket looked suspicious—it was a big winner

A Campbell County woman plans to remodel her home after scratching off a $50,000 Kentucky Lottery ticket she bought at a local liquor store.

Sydeny Stevins, of Alexandria, is a regular scratch-off player. She told the the lottery she knew something was different about her ticket by glancing at the numbers at the top. When she took the ticket to the store for scanning, her suspicions were confirmed.

“The owner was jumping up and down, excited, ready to hug everybody. My heart just kind of dropped. It was exciting!,” Stevins told Kentucky Lottery officials, a Tuesday press release from the agency said. “I’m still in shock.”

While Stevins normally favors the $10 and $20 tickets, she told lottery officials a $30 ticket, the lottery’s $50,000 CA$H game, was calling her name. The ticket advertises 50 top prizes of $50,000 each, and having won $20 on a previous game, Stevins decided to roll the dice.

The odds of winning a top prize are 1 in 21,600, according to the game’s official rules. As of May 5, six of those top prizes remain.

After taxes, Stevins ultimately walked away with a check worth $36,000. She told the lottery she plans to use the money to remodel her home, as well as “setting herself up for the future,” the release said.

In another significant Kentucky Lottery win recently, an Eastern Kentucky man walked away with a $100,000 jackpot after purchasing a ticket at a Circle K in Corbin.
