If you recently purchased a half-gallon tub of Blue Bell Ice Cream’s cookie dough flavor, it could contain a nasty surprise for anyone in your home with a tree nut allergy.

The popular ice cream brand is recalling one lot of the product after it was mistakenly filled with its Moo-llenium Crunch ice cream, which contains walnuts, almonds and pecans, a recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration notice reports.

While the half-gallon containers do have the Moo-llenium Crunch lids, the tub is labeled as cookie dough ice cream, which doesn’t contain nuts.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, walnuts, and pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA’s Aug. 22 notice states.

The mislabeled products were shipped to stores in 16 states, including Kentucky.

How to tell if you bought recalled Blue Bell ice cream containing nuts

Other than the mismatched lid, the FDA advises customers to check their freezers and look for the lot code 061027524.

The recalled product is pictured below.

If you purchased one of these products, the FDA advises returning it to the store you bought it at for a full refund.

Blue Bell Ice Cream has issued several major recalls in recent years, perhaps most notably in 2015, when the company recalled its entire product line for possible contamination with listeria.
