The Paintsville Police Department shared on social media that Childers, who graduated from Paintsville High School, stopped by their booth at the store, where they were raising money for their Helping Heroes program.

The program, run by Paintsville police, firefighters and EMS, helps provide Christmas for children in Paintsville and Johnson County and this year is hoping to expand to include local nursing homes.

The post did not say if Childers made a donation; he is known for previous charitable efforts in Eastern Kentucky.

The Lawrence County native recently received four Grammy nominations, according to WYMT, which first reported Childers’ appearance.

He’s also going to be headlining at Railbird in Lexington in 2026.

But he still might not be readily recognizable in his hometown: A local man who took the photo of Childers and the police officers commented that he “didn’t even realize who I was taking a picture of at first.”
