Overnight snow blankets Central KY. Here’s how much snow Lexington got
Some areas of Kentucky received more than 4 inches of snow from an overnight storm that coated area roadways, leaving hazardous driving conditions for the Tuesday morning commute.
Most of Kentucky, except for the southeastern most counties, received at least a dusting, according to the National Weather Service. Areas along the Ohio River from roughly Brandenburg to Cincinnati received between 3 and 5 inches of snow.
Lexington received around an inch of snow, according to the NWS.
Wintry precipitation started falling late Monday night and began tapering off by Tuesday morning. The weather service had many Central Kentucky counties areas under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m.
The storm left snow and slick spots on the road for Tuesday morning commuters. The Lexington Police Department said officers responded to three injury collisions and four collisions without injury between as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Major downtown intersections, like Broadway and Main Street, and Limestone and Main Street, appear to have clear roadways ahead of the Tuesday morning commute, traffic cameras show. Intersections outside of New Circle Road, such as Man o’ War Boulevard and Armstrong Mill Road, and Newtown Pike and Citation Boulevard, also appear to be largely clear of snow.
“Motorists are advised to use caution on their morning commute as there could be slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses and other untreated surfaces,” the city cautioned.
The city pre-treated some roads ahead of the expected snow, city officials said at a Monday afternoon news conference. Area sidewalks are also expected to be slick.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 7, which covers Fayette County, advised motorists to drive slow and allow extra commute time as crews work to maintain good road conditions.
Gov. Andy Beshear said a few areas of the state received several inches of snow.
“Remember, even if your area didn’t get snow, the rain and cold temperatures can make roadways slick,” Beshear wrote in a post on X. “Please go slow and be careful.”
Fayette County Public Schools was among the Kentucky districts closed Tuesday for a snow day.
