Share the road with bicycles
A recent letter complained about the bicycle lanes on Polo Club Boulevard. Perhaps I may be one of the three to four people the writer has seen riding in the bike lanes.
The bike lanes on Polo Club provide a more secure route for cyclists, and it connects to the Brighton East Rail Trail that runs from the Hamburg area to Walnut Grove Lane. Once there, one can ride in a low-traffic area on Real Quiet Lane or further to the Greenbrier area.
Lexington needs more bike lanes, and we could start by removing the dangerous traffic islands on Pleasant Stone where there is ample room for bike lanes.
To those who want fewer bike lanes, I suggest that you slow down and recognize that Lexington is a diverse community which features folks who may consider bicycling a fun activity as well as good exercise. Sharing the road with bicycles is just another way that people can work together and avoid taking a “me first” attitude, interested only in how situations affect you.
