Law clear on state’s pension obligations
I am writing in response to Aaron Ammerman’s opinion written on behalf of the Bluegrass Institute. Ammerman doesn’t seem to have basic knowledge of what a contract is. Parties enter into a contract for their mutual benefit. Kentucky has benefited greatly from the decades of work we provided, and we never failed to pay what the contract required of us. Now that the time has come for us to be on the receiving end of our contract, people like Ammerman and the Bluegrass Institute want to point to us and criticize us individually and as a group for being unwilling to give still more. As taxpayers and stakeholders, we hold the moral high ground in this situation, not those who are paid for their opinions. This is not about opinions, and it’s not even about ethics. It’s about the law, and the law in this case is completely unambiguous.
