Report: Former Kentucky QB Beau Allen has found a new football home in Texas
Lexington native and former Kentucky football quarterback Beau Allen will spend the 2022 season at the FCS level.
Allen, the former Lexington Catholic star who announced he was leaving UK after two seasons last week, has committed to Tarleton State, according to a report from ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.
The Texas university plays in the Western Athletic Conference.
Last season, Tarleton State was 6-5.
In two seasons at UK, Allen completed 11 of 19 passes for 132 yards. He served as the primary backup to starter Will Levis last season but was expected to face competition from Iowa transfer Deuce Hogan and former Somerset star Kaiya Sheron for the No. 2 position on the depth chart in preseason practices starting this week.
Levis, widely projected as a possible first-round pick, is set to move to the NFL after the season, but Kentucky could look to the transfer portal again for its starting quarterback in 2023, as it did with Levis a year ago. Each of Mark Stoops’ bowl teams at UK has been led by a quarterback who transferred into the program after starting his college career elsewhere.
By transferring to the FCS level, Allen can play immediately this season, which he said was a priority when announcing his decision to transfer from Kentucky.
Thamel reported there was significant interest in Allen on the transfer market. WBKO-TV reported Allen visited Western Kentucky shortly after entering the portal.
