What’s the latest on injured Cats Richards and Hagans? Here’s what Calipari said.
Takeaways from interviews Friday previewing Kentucky’s game against Florida on Saturday:
▪ UK Coach John Calipari said the status of Nick Richards and Ashton Hagans remains day-to-day. Richards, who rolled his ankle late in Tuesday’s win at LSU, said he would practice Friday. Hagans suffered a thigh contusion in Tuesday’s game. Calipari said he would not want a player at less than 100 percent to play.
▪ Richards said when he watched video of himself accidentally falling on a ball he dunked, he thought he broke his right ankle.
▪ If Richards cannot play? Calipari said, “We have Ben (Jordan). Go out there and throw strikes.”
▪ Immanuel Quickley said he and Florida sophomore Noah Locke played in the same conference in high school.
▪ Calipari voiced mixed feelings about the momentum to allow college athletes to transfer once without having to sit out a season. He said he did not like the damage that could be done to mid-major programs if a player opted to leave. And coaches who tampered with players should be fired, he said.
▪ If the NCAA had allowed transferring without sitting out a season, Richards said he would not have considered that option during his first two college seasons.
