Kentucky head coach Mark Pope ran onto the Rupp Arena court to play peacemaker following a skirmish midway through Friday night’s game against Georgia State.
Panthers forward Clash Peters started the incident by fouling Amari Williams hard away from the ball, sending UK’s starting center sprawling to the court.
A referee on the baseline immediately signaled for a flagrant foul against Peters, pushing and shoving followed, and Pope eventually ran across the court to help separate the players, grabbing Georgia State forward Zarique Nutter and guiding him away from the scrum. A Panthers assistant also entered the mix to try and get players separated.
Following a lengthy delay as referees looked at video of the incident, a flagrant foul was assessed to Peters, and deadball technical fouls were given to Nutter and UK’s Koby Brea, who shoved Peters after he knocked Williams to the court.
The official scorebook showed that Peters had been ejected from the game, though there was no such announcement inside Rupp Arena, and Peters later re-entered the game — to loud boos from the crowd — with less than five minutes left and Kentucky leading by 23 points. The official stats also showed UK’s Otega Oweh with a technical foul, though that was not announced inside of Rupp Arena either.
Peters fouled out for good with 2:44 remaining.
Kentucky was winning 61-53 with 12:37 at the time of the altercation.
