Kentucky women’s basketball to open 2025-26 season against an in-state opponent
The Kentucky women’s basketball team will welcome an in-state program to Memorial Coliseum to open the 2025-26 season.
The Wildcats will face Morehead State on Monday, Nov. 3, to begin Kenny Brooks’ second season at the helm, the program announced on Wednesday afternoon. It is the first announcement regarding next season’s schedule.
The Eagles, who are entering their first season under coach Ashton Feldhaus, are turning to a new chapter after assembling an overall record of 10-20 (5-15 OVC) last year. Feldhaus, a native of Richmond, Ky., comes to Morehead State after a 20-win season with Division II Missouri Western.
The Wildcats posted a successful campaign — 23-8 overall and 11-5 in the SEC — in their first season under Brooks, earning a fourth-place finish in a loaded Southeastern Confererence and a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Led by seniors Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence, Kentucky reached the second round of the Big Dance for the first time since 2021 before falling in overtime to 5 seed Kansas State.
UK and Morehead State have played 37 contests since their first meeting on Feb. 10, 1975, with the Wildcats holding a 33-4 edge in the all-time series. In November, Kentucky will look to extend their win streak over the Eagles to 17; the active, 16-game win streak dates back to Feb. 20, 1990, when Kentucky dominated MSU 106-71 in Lexington.
The teams last met on Nov. 11, 2022, when the Wildcats defeated the Eagles 73-48 at Memorial Coliseum.
