UK women’s basketball picks up commitment from five-star wing

Kenny Brooks has scored his second five-star commitment of the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Savvy Swords, the No. 18 national prospect in the class of 2026, announced her commitment to Kentucky on Saturday night.

Swords, a 6-foot-2 wing out of Long Island Lutheran High School in New York, missed the majority of her junior campaign because of an injury.

Expected to make a full recovery for LuHi, Swords is also a standout for AAU club Kia Nurse Elite and the Canadian junior national team. Swords helped the U17 roster to a silver medal in the 2024 U17 World Cup, during which she averaged 16.3 points, 6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contests across seven games.

Swords chose the Wildcats over UCLA, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Michigan.

She joins point guard Maddyn Greenway, the No. 11 recruit in the class, in UK’s 2026 recruiting cycle. Greenway and Swords are the second and third five-star prospects to sign with Brooks and the Wildcats out of high school, following the five-star pledge of incoming freshman Kaelyn Carroll, who graduated as the No. 18 recruit in the class of 2025.

Savannah Swords has represented Canada’s junior national team each of the past two years. On Saturday, the five-star wing committed to play for Kentucky.

The talented wing is the younger sister of Syla Swords, a member of the 2024 Canadian Olympic basketball team who also just finished her freshman campaign at Michigan as the team’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer.
